Director Tommy Pallotta made a compelling documentary about his friend Stephen Prince: a very engaging storyteller who worked extensively with film icon Martin Scorsese in the seventies, both as a producer and as an actor (Taxi Driver).

Prince was also the subject of Scorsese's lost film 'American Boy', in which the young Stephen tells fascinating, some time totally absurd anecdotes from his rock&roll life. For example: the most memorable scene from Tarantino's Pulp Fiction, in which Travolta injects adrenaline into the heart of Uma Thurman who overdosed, is based on a story that Stephen tells in this documentary.

Three decades after Scorsese's film was released, Tommy Pallotta brings us 'American Prince', where he draws out Steven Prince once more to recount his days since 'American Boy', share why he turned his back on the entertainment industry and to compose the next chapter of his story.

Mahamat Saleh Haroun

Né à N'Djaména, au Tchad, en 1961, il étudie le cinéma au Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma Français. En 1994, il réalise « Maral Tanié » un court métrage qui sera primé. Après 2 documentaires, il tourne en 1999 son premier long métrage « Bye bye Africa » pour lequel il reçoit 2 prix au festival de Venise, dont celui du Meilleur Premier film. Son dernier film « Daratt, saison sèche » reçoit le Prix spécial du Jury au Festival de Venise et l'Etalon de Bronze au FESPACO.

Saint Pierre Yaméogo

Il est né en 1955 au Burkina Faso. Il a fait ses études au Conservatoire du cinéma français et est titulaire d'une maîtrise de communication. Ses films suscitent toujours de vives polémiques. « Wendemi », qui raconte l'histoire d'une jeune fille enceinte d'un prêtre, lui vaut d'être réveillé au petit matin par une foule de curés venus lui demander des excuses. Il s'attire également la colère de la communauté libanaise à la sortie du film « Silmandé ».

Cheik Doukouré

Né en 1943 à Kankan en Guinée, il arrive en France en 1964. En 1977, il écrit le scénario de « Bako, l'autre rive » et en 1985 co-écrit « Black Mic Mac ». En 1991, il entame une carrière de réalisateur avec « Blanc d'ébène », puis « Le ballon d'or » qui, avec 450 000 entrées en France, est à ce jour l'un des plus grands succès du cinéma africain. En 2001 il réalise « Paris selon Moussa ». Il est le cinéaste africain qui a fait de l'immigration son cheval de bataille.

Philippe Mory

Né au Gabon en 1932, il fait ses études en France, apprend le théâtre et fait ses premiers pas dans « Irma la douce ». En 1959, il est le 1er Africain à jouer dans un long métrage français : « On n'enterre pas le dimanche » de Michel Drach. Il retourne au pays où il réalise son 1er long métrage : « Les tam-tams se sont tus ». Aujourd'hui âgé, il avoue avoir porté la casquette de réalisateur pour assurer la relève afin de transmettre son talent aux jeunes.

Gaston Jean-Marie Kaboré

Né en 1951 à Bobo-Dioulasso, au Burkina Faso, il fait partie des sommités du cinéma africain. Son premier film « Wend Kuni » a été couronné d'un César du film francophone en 1985 et son dernier long métrage « Buud Yam » a remporté l'Etalon de Yennega au FESPACO 1997. C'est un homme qui suit son intuition et s'implique dans la formation des cinéastes africains. Il enseigne et communique sa passion aux autres pour assurer la relève...
