Three years have passed since the tragic accident, three years in which Haruka has been in a coma. Takayuki and Mitsuki are in a loveless relationship, lacking in joy and ridden with guilt. Neither followed through with their plans after high school, and their lot in life is not the shining dream they once expected. Takayuki has an abusive, unfulfilling job at a local restaurant and Mitsuki gave up competitive swimming, once her passion. Of their old group, only Shinji has made something of his life.

As high school draws to a close, Haruka regrets that her long-held crush on fellow classmate Takayuki will never see fruition. Moved by her friend’s devotion, the outgoing Mitsuki decides to take action and arranges for a clandestine meeting. Prompted to action, Haruka confesses her love at long last and the two become a couple. But what should be a dream come true quickly sours, as even the best of intentions cannot stand up to the emotions of the young at heart.
