Since Ford started selling it in 1998 it’s won no less than 75 car awards, it’s been car of the year on both sides of the Atlantic, and it’s been Britain’s best-seller for the last six years.

Vicki Butler-Henderson, Tiff Needell and Jason Plato will be testing three of the most economical cars on the market. There’s the petrol-powered Daihatsu Charade, the diesel-powered Citroen C2 and the “hybrid” Toyota Prius which runs on a combination of battery power and petrol. And there’s a roadtest of the car Tiff’s been waiting for, the new Porsche 911.

Vicki Butler-Henderson pits the new £15,000 Mercedes A-Class against a range topping £65,000 Mercedes SL.Tiff Needell has driven most of the cars in real life so is in the perfect position to test the game’s realism – which he does by challenging the legendary Kazunori to a virtual race.

Vicki Butler-Henderson finds out exactly how easy it is to control this £160,000 beast by putting it in the hands of a complete novice - in fact someone who is only licensed to drive automatics - her mother. Tom Ford follows Frank to see exactly what it’s like to live with a car like this. Frank Mountain is the millionaire property developer and Fifth Gear fan who last year bought Michael Schumacher’s Formula 1 car.
