Kanna (Sharad Kapoor) and Rupi (Nandita Das) are childhood sweethearts. They are members of a tribe who lives in a forest. Kanna is a medical student who lives and studies in Nagpur. His brother Ghisu (Vijay Raj) is hot-tempered man, frustrated by his illiteracy and poverty. This makes him the ideal target for the Naxalite movement, a violent, radical outfit that preys upon disgruntled people. Ghisu joins the movement in spite of all Kanna?s warnings. A corrupt and sadistic forest ranger (Akhilendra Mishra) begins to misuse his power over the helpless tribals. Events take a dramatic turn when Rupi vanishes and is presumed dead. Kanna rushes back home only to discover that Rupi is alive but has joined the Naxalite movement herself. This powerful drama is a hard-hitting look at the realities of the violence and human cost of radical political movements.
